SCinet '96 Network Offerings

Overview of Network Connections

This year SCinet will provide Ethernet, FDDI, ATM, Fast Ethernet and, inconjunction with the HiPPi Networking Forum, HiPPi, network connections and services. In order to plan for the network connectivity for the conference, we request that you provide network connection information to the SCinet committee by the deadlines indicated below.

SCinet will provide network infrastructure which will provide connectivity between the booths (LAN), to the Internet (WAN) and to the Global Wide Area Applications Testbed (G-WAAT). Each exhibitor has the opportunity to provide the SCinet design staff with their network connectivity requirements, based on a set of standardized options. In order to meet the needs of the show participants in a timely basis we are requesting this information well in advance of the show. As indicated below, requests made after the stated deadlines will be done on a first-come, best-effort basis.

For the first year, we plan to offer a commodity Ethernet connection to every booth on the show floor. This connection, which will follow the fee schedule given below, will provide external network access both before and during the show.

We look forward to working with all the exhibitors at the conference. We will be providing a FAQ (frequently asked questions) section on our WWW server. Specific questions regarding the infrastructure can be sent to scinet-info@pgh.supercomp.org.

Connection Types and Fees

SCInet '96 plans to offer the following network connections to the Exhibit and Research Booths on the show floor. As in past years, we have organized a team of industry suppliers, exhibitors, carriers, service providers and technical support volunteers to design, develop, implement and support the network for this year's conference. Although SCinet depends significantly on donated equipment and volunteer help, there is still significant expense associated with building the network infrastructure for the conference. Thus, we must charge a fee for to cover the costs associated with the network connections. The fee schedule for this years conference is:

10 Mbps Ethernet $1,000
FDDI/HiPPI/Fast Ethernet $1,500
ATM OC-3c $1,750
Inter-Booth $1,500
Shared Ethernet $400
