PUBLISH and USE Curricular Materials On The WEB CRPC GirlTECH '96

• Be provided with year-long Rice University Internet accounts and software needed for Internet access.
• Receive intensive computer technology training from Master Teachers, especially in the use of the Internet .
• Explore the issue of computer use and access by gender and find innovative teaching strategies that impact gender equity in the classroom.
• Utilize online resources and learn to navigate and publish on the Internet.
• Create your own home page; design and publish lessons on the World Wide Web; and create a home page for your school.
• Explore representation issues and teacher practices that impact girls' interest in computers.
• Become a member of an ongoing teachers' technology electronic support group that communicates throughout the year.

Class begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. Parking is a challenge. Please arrange your schedule accordingly. There will be a 10 minute morning and afternoon break. Lunch will be from 11:30-12:30. Several lunch plans have been made and are listed below. You may want to consider bringing your lunch the rest of the time. The lunch hour does include travel time. Class is dismissed at 3:00 p.m. The master teachers will be available after class to answer technical questions, he lp with lessons plans, or just brainstorm. Dress is very informal. We are guests in the Owllink room. Please remember this at all times. No food or drinks are allowed in the lab.

Complete the Pre and Post tests.
Develop an individual home page.
Develop a school home page that will be linked to the participants home page.
Publish two lesson plans on World Wide Web incorporating what you learn on impacting girls' interest in computers.
Write four reflections on assigned topics.
Consider writing articles for the Fall CRPC newsletter.
Become a member. of an ongoing teachers' electronic support group that communicates throughout the year.

• June 3 First day success story: include suggestions for PC SLIP handout. Share your expectations of what you expect to get out of the course, what your concerns are, and how you view your experiences after the first day.
• June 5 How have your views changed about how computer technology can be integrated into your teaching and impact student learning?
• June 7 Have you been introduced to any new "gender equity in education" issues this week? How might you modify your classroom strategies to incorporate some of these ideas? You may want to reflect on some success stories of some girls that y ou have taught.
• June 11 Formally critique your first lesson. Explain how you are going to use it in your classroom. What modifications would you make to it after presenting it to the participants in class?
• June 14 Given your expectations at the beginning of the project, how do you view your experiences this summer? (We look forward to this reflection sometime before next Friday, June 21).
