SC2003, under the theme Igniting Innovation,"
will be held Nov. 15-21 in Phoenix, AZ.
SC2003 REGISTRATION OPENS FRIDAY, AUGUST 8
The Web page for registering for SC2003 will go live
on Friday, August 8. Registration information will be
available on the website.
To qualify for the advance registration discounts, your
registration and payment must be received by 5 p.m.
(Eastern time) Friday, Oct. 10. Register early and save
money.
JULY 31 SUBMISSION DEADLINE
FOR RESEARCH POSTERS
The SC2003 conference is seeking poster presentations
reporting late-breaking experimental or theoretical
results, innovative designs, and case studies related
to high performance networking and computing. Posters
provide an excellent opportunity for short presentations
and informal discussions with conference attendees.
The posters are prominently displayed throughout the
conference, giving presenters a chance to showcase
their latest results and innovations. One poster will
be honored with a Best Poster Award. The deadline
to submit posters is Thursday, July 31. To submit
a poster, go to the SC2003 conference
submissions page. For more information, see
the web
site.
LAST CALL FOR FERNBACH, CRAY AWARD NOMINATIONS;
SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS THURSDAY, JULY 31
The nomination deadline for nominations for the Seymour
Cray Computer Engineering Award and the Sidney Fernbach
Memorial Award is Thursday, July 31. These awards, sponsored
by the IEEE Computer Society, will be presented during
the awards ceremony at SC2003 in Phoenix this November.
If you would like to nominate someone, please see the
additional information below (and do not hesitate!):
The Seymour Cray Computer Engineering Award is given
to individuals whose innovative contributions to high
performance computing systems best exemplify the creative
spirit demonstrated by Seymour Cray. The award consists
of a crystal model, certificate, and honorarium of $10,000.
The nomination form and submission information can be
found on the web
site.
The Sidney Fernbach Memorial Award was established
in 1992 in memory of Sidney Fernbach, one of the pioneers
in the development and application of high performance
computers for the solution of large computational problems.
A certificate and $2,000 are awarded for outstanding
contributions in the application of high performance
computers using innovative approaches. The nomination
form and submission information can be found at the
web
site.
Note: The IEEE award nomination pages are being updated
from last year. Submission deadlines are July 31, 2003.
HPC CHALLENGE ENTRIES DUE JULY 31
The SC2003 High Performance Computing Challenge Awards
will honor participants for innovative uses of high
performance computing resources. This competition will
provide opportunities for contestants to showcase their
applications and platforms. Awards will be given in
two categories:
Most Innovative Data-Intensive Application.
The increasing ability to create, store and access larger
and larger datasets underscores the importance of mining
data to glean useful knowledge. This award will be presented
to the entry that uses the most novel and/or inventive
approaches in data mining, data visualizing, or a combination
of these tasks.
Most Geographically Distributed Application.
As grids continue to make distance an obsolete concept,
the ability to solve challenging computational problems
is becoming crucial. This award will be presented to
the team with the most geographically distributed application
to solve a significantly complex problem.
Contestants will demonstrate their entries in front
of an audience at the conference on Wednesday, Nov.
19. Awards will be presented at the Awards Session on
Thursday, Nov. 20.
For more information and a submission form, visit the
web
site. Entries should include the names and contact
information for all participants, an abstract describing
the challenge, and any special requirements for high
performance computing resources, data storage, networking,
or presentation technology. Again, the deadline to submit
applications is Thursday, July 31.
EXHIBITOR FORUM SUBMISSIONS DUE AUGUST 8
Industry exhibitors will have the opportunity to highlight
their R&D breakthroughs at SC2003's Exhibitor
Forum. The forum showcases the latest technology
advances from industry exhibitors in all high performance
related disciplines. More than 60 percent of those
who attended previous Exhibitor Forums found the
experience to be valuable or very valuable. For
submission information, see the web
site.
EXHIBIT HALL FILLING FAST, BUT THERE'S STILL TIME
FOR NEW EXHIBITORS
As of July 1, 160 industry and research exhibitors had
been assigned booths at the Phoenix Civic Plaza Convention
Center. Exhibitors range from the world's largest technology
and computer companies to new startup firms to university
and Department of Energy research labs, U.S. government
agencies, and organizations in Europe and Asia. If you
havent signed up for exhibit space yet, there
is still time to get a booth at SC2003. For information
on industry exhibits, including an application form,
see the web
site. For information on research exhibits,
see the web
site. The exhibits section of the website also
includes the latest floor plan for SC2003.
