SC2003 News

Welcome
Greetings and welcome to the 2003 edition of the SC conference
series official newsletter. If you are receiving this newsletter,
it is because you attended a previous SC conference. The newsletter
is intended to give you useful, up-to-date information about
SC2003 through short articles and a lot of urls and email
addresses. It will be distributed at least once each month
up to the time of the conference. To unsubsribe from our distribution
list, click on the link at the top of this email. Newsletters
also will be posted on the SC2003 website.
SC2003 to Convene
November 15-21 in Phoenix
SC2003 continues the 15-year Supercomputing Conference tradition
of highlighting the most innovative developments in high-performance
computing and networking. Bringing together scientists, engineers,
researchers, educators, programmers, visualization artists,
system administrators and managers, SC2003 in Phoenix will
demonstrate how these developments are sparking new ideas
and new industries, as well as rekindling older ones. The
conference will feature the latest scientific and technical
innovations from around the world. For the latest developments

SC Global Returns
SC2003 marks the return of SC Global, the multi-national and
multi-cultural meeting place for communication and discussion
of ideas relating to high-end computing and communications
and their impact on science and society. SC Global 2003 will
link the Phoenix Civic Plaza Convention Center with Access
Grid nodes worldwide. With advances in Access Grid technology,
as well as continued exponential growth of the network, we
expect to be joined by at least 1,000 participants at more
than 150 locations across the United States, Europe, South
America, Australia, Asia, and beyond. For information on how

Submissions
Website Opens Monday, April 7, Submissions Deadline is Friday,
April 25
The SC2003 planning committee will begin accepting submissions
on Monday, April 7. Submissions are being sought for Gordon
Bell Prize nominations, panels, all SC Global categories,
technical papers and
tutorials. For submission details and a link to the submissions
website, check out the technical program section of the website.
The conference will be held Nov. 15-21 in Phoenix.
The SC2003 Technical
Papers program promises to bring the latest research advances
in high-performance computing and networking to Phoenix. The
topics of interest span the breadth of the field. See the
submissions website for more details. Extended abstracts up
to 12 pages in length will be peer-reviewed.
Research Exhibits
Space and Networking Requests Due April 25
Research exhibitors are reminded that space and networking
requests are due by April 25. The application forms for booth
space and networking requests will be posted in the research
exhibits section of the website.
Research exhibits costs have changed this year and networking
requests will cost a flat $1,500 each. There will be NO free
network connections this year.
Hotel Reservations
Page to Go Live in Mid-April – Submit Requests Early
The SC2003 hotel situation in Phoenix will be similar to Portland
and Dallas, with only a couple of hotels within walking distance
of the Phoenix Civic Plaza Convention Center. The conference
has booked blocks of rooms at these hotels, as well as others
farther out and will again provide shuttle bus service between
these outlying hotels and the convention center. However,
conference attendees who book rooms at hotels outside the
conference reservation block will have to make their own transportation
arrangements for getting to the convention center.
In short, attendees
should make their reservations as early as possible to get
the best possible accommodations. This is especially true
for getting rooms at the lower government rate – these
rooms always go quickly. Several hotels in the conference
block this year are offering rooms at rates close to the government
rate. All rooms are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
The reservations
schedule, a hotel amenity list, and a map of the conference
hotels will be available on the Web in mid-April. Watch this
newsletter for updates.
The Hotel Reservation
System Web page will be open from Monday, June 2, to Friday,
October 10, 2003.
Exhibitors interested
in reserving room blocks (10 or more rooms) or have special
requirements regarding their reservations should contact the
SC2003 Housing Coordinator for further assistance as soon
as possible. Some exhibitors are already requesting blocks,
so don't delay! The deadline for Exhibitor Blocks is Friday,
September 19. Exhibitors needing rooms for meetings or receptions
should also get their requests in early.

Education Program
Focuses on Teacher Teams
Teams of undergraduate faculty and K-12 teachers are invited
to attend the SC2003 Education Program, to be held over the
first four days of SC2003. Participants are expected to participate
in the entire program, arriving on Friday evening, Nov. 14,
and departing no earlier than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18.
Participants also are encouraged to attend other conference
offerings, including Tutorials, Exhibits, and Technical Program
sessions. Applications for the Education Program are due May
30. A link to application forms is available on the website.
