Greetings, and welcome to the first issue of the SC2002 newsletter. We
have sent you this message based on your attendance at a previous SC conference.
We hope you find the information useful, but if you don't want to be on

The newsletter will be sent out each month, providing short articles about
the conference, upcoming dates and program developments. You can also

SC2002 Scheduled for Nov. 16-22 in Baltimore
SC2002, under the theme "From Terabytes to Insights," will be
held Nov. 16-22 in Baltimore, Md. For the past 14 years, SC has brought
together scientists, engineers, systems administrators, programmers, managers
and vendors to share ideas, swap stories and glimpse the next horizons
in high-performance computing and networking, data analysis and management,
visualization and computational modeling. Plan now to participate in SC2002.
Submissions Website to Open April 8, Due Date is Friday, April 26
The SC2002 website for submissions opens Monday, April 8. Submissions
will be accepted for Gordon Bell Prize nominations, Panels, Technical
Papers (extended abstracts), Tutorials and Workshops. The submissions
website can be accessed from the SC2002 Technical Program Web page: .
The submission deadline is Friday, April 26.
April 26 is
also the deadline for submitting research exhibit requests, as well as
booth requirements for space and networking connections.
Research Exhibitors Website Now Open for Submitting Space Requests
The website for requesting research exhibit booth space at SC2002 is now
open and accessible from the Exhibits section of the SC2002 website at
. Details about SC2002 research exhibits, including a link to the application,
can be found using the *Research* link. Although the deadline for submitting
exhibit applications is Friday, April 26, all exhibitors are encouraged
to submit their applications by Wednesday, April 17, so the Research Exhibits
Committee can consider the request during their April 18 meeting to allocate
floor space.
The Exhibits website also provides information on submitting requests
for networking, space, and special requirements, such as co-location near
other research or industry exhibits. For more information about Research

Scientific Modeling Images Needed for SC2002 Opening Video
Organizers of the SC2002 conference are seeking videos showing the full
variety of technologies and applications in high-performance computing
and networking. Examples include computing and networking hardware, scientific
visualizations (we need more in biology, chemistry, and engineering),
and scientists interacting with data at various interfaces (basically
doing cool things). Planners especially want to illustrate the conference's
"Terabytes to Insights" theme. Footage that lends itself to
excerpts of a few seconds is the most useful.
The material will be used in the opening day video, which is shown just
before the keynote address. NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center is taking
the lead in creating the SC2002 opening video. Please send your video
in the Betacam SP or Mini DV formats by April 19 to:

SC2002 Education Program Offers Teacher Training in Latest Computing
Technologies
Teachers interested in learning about computational science and how to
integrate it into the classroom are invited to participate in the SC2002
Education Program. Undergraduate and K-12 educators participate in the
conference through the Education Program, and by attending the exhibits,
plenary sessions, and special programs offered to all conference attendees.
Furthermore, the SC conference Education Program continues throughout
the year through regional workshops and additional activities to keep
educators current with new developments in the use of computing techniques
in the classroom.
The SC2002 Education Program offers the opportunity for educators to work
on the integration of modeling and visualization tools, resources, and
techniques into their classroom activities. The program encourages the
participation of underrepresented faculty and teachers, including faculty
from two and four-year colleges, primarily undergraduate institutions,
and minority-serving institutions. The Education Program portion of the
SC2002 conference runs from Saturday, Nov. 16, through Tuesday, Nov. 19,
although participants are encouraged to stay for the remainder of the
week to participate in the full range of conference offerings. Support
for travel and housing expenses will be provided to accepted applicants,
pending funding.
