Dr. Frances Allen
IBM Fellow, IBM T.J. Watson Research Center

Fran Allen is an IBM fellow at IBM's T.J. Watson Research Laboratory and is was the 1995 President of the IBM Academy of Technology. Ms. Allen specializes in compilers, compiler optimization, programming languages and parallelism. Her early compiler work culminated in algorithms and technologies that are the basis for the theory of program optimization and are widely used throughout the industry. More recently she has led compiler and environment projects resulting in committed products for analyzing and transforming programs, particularly parallel systems.

Dr. Allen is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a fellow of the IEEE, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She is currently on the Computer Science and Telecommunications Board, the Computer Research Associates (CRA) board and NSF's CISE Advisory Board.
